Since kilts generally do not have pockets, the sporran is where kilt-wearers keep their wallet, keys, etc. Leather sporrans, with or without tassels, are considered to be everyday sporrans worn with casual or day dress. They can be dressed up with embossed designs and studs. Sporrans with a fur front are usually classed as semi-dress sporrans and are worn for slightly dressier occasions. Finally, dress sporrans have a full fur front, often white, and a chrome or silver cantle.
